Robert M. Burger Fellowship

The Robert M. Burger Fellowship was created by Semiconductor Research Corporation in 1992 in recognition of Dr. Burger's ten years of service to SRC as Vice President and Chief Scientist.

This Fellowship is for research in microelectronics-related policy and/or management issues with the intention being to encourage the development of new concepts or insights into the factors that influence competitiveness in high technology industry. Possible areas of interest include industrial or technology policy, regulatory and fiscal environment, corporate and sectorial structure, education, research and development, and management.

The Fellowship will be awarded competitively on the basis of the quality, relevance, and timeliness of the proposed research; on demonstrated academic and leadership ability, and on the appropriateness of the institutional environment for the research. The Fellowship will be awarded to a graduate student who is:

  • a U.S. citizen
  • has completed a Master's degree
  • is pursuing, or is planning to pursue a doctoral program in an academic area appropriate to the Fellowship

The Robert M. Burger Fellowship provides full tuition and fees and a stipend of $2,186/month, as well as an annual unrestricted gift of $2,000/year to the university department with which the student is associated. The Fellowship will continue to completion of the doctoral program, but for no more than four-years. Continuation will be contingent only upon satisfactory progress in the proposed course of study and research as determined by the faculty advisor and SRC. Succeeding Fellowships will be awarded as the current recipient completes doctoral studies.
